An extraordinarily rich and exotic collection from the mistress of erotic writing

In Delta of Venus , Anais Nin pens a lush, magical world where the characters of her imagination possess the most universal of desires and exceptional of talents. Among these provocative stories, a Hungarian adventurer seduces wealthy women then vanishes with their money; a veiled woman selects strangers from a chic restaurant for private trysts; and a Parisian hatmaker named Mathilde leaves her husband for the opium dens of Peru.

Yes. That's right. Only a 1/2-star rating for Anais Nin's "Delta of Venus".... And, here's why....

It was this volume's very first story (The Hungarian Adventurer), whose shallow and distasteful tale (that zeroed in on the revolting activities of an unrestrained child molester), which, pretty much, set the overall tone for the remainder of Nin's 14 tales (each of equally corrupt sexuality).

With all of these stories penned by Nin back in the 1940's - I found that they all seemed to be written from the annoying "aw-shucks" mindset of a 15-year-old girl who was totally obsessed with sex - (But, unfortunately, her gleefully naive descriptions of these carnal events were all presented in such a delinquent, "cutesy-pie" type fashion).

Yep. I was completely disappointed with Nin's work here. Prior to reading these short stories, I had often heard of this woman who was highly praised for being a real champion of female erotica from the mid-20th century.... Well - Not the case, from my perspective.

Anyway - Anais Nin died in 1977 at the age of 74.

Surprisingly well written and at times thoughtful short stories. This is one of the best books I've read in this genre. Covers a great many areas from the general to the bizarre.
