Poppy Caldwell is an orphan who keeps seeing a figure standing behind her in the mirror at the group home where she lives, but she does not associate this ghost with the letter that mysteriously appears in her file, claiming to be from a long-lost aunt, and inviting her to Larkspur House--and she is just one of five children who find themselves gathered in this strange house with a deadly past, and apparently no intention of letting the children escape.

The writing is very easy to follow and intriguing. What I didn't like is that it isn't one story, it is a different character story in every chapter, different scene, etc. It seems the characters will all somehow make sense in their separate stories, but it would have been better if it were one clear story. I do not like books that jump around to different people and happenings, it makes it harder to get into a book, and harder to follow. I thought I would borrow the rest of them, but it got frustrating so I am returning without completing it. Hopefully other books by Dan Poblocki are not written this way, because he is a very talented writer and this could have been a great read.

In my opinion, Shadow House is pretty lame, no offense.
This book was recommended to me so I decided to check it out.
The book seemed to be written for 6 yr olds, and I'm way above that.
All I can say is, don't judge a book by it's cover.

Amazing. This book is amazing. Even though the author kept some things kind of boring he had twists and turns in every chapter. I mostly like the middle. The author also did a great job of explaining the characters fear almost as if we were there. I cant wait for the book 2. (What is the title of book 2?) I predict that this author will have as much success in book 2 as he did in this book. I really recommend reading this book. The age limit I think for this book should be 8-14 because some young kids read like grade 7s! And most people stop reading the book at 13 because the find it childish or inappropriate. This is my option personally. The author did a great job on this book I could not put it down. Great job. Is a must read.
