It's a story of friendship: a girl and boy bonded together. (not romantically, they're only 11 years old) A quiet book will likeable characters. The boy Jason has to move because bank foreclosing on house. I liked this grown up topic was discussed in such relatable, impactful way. The girl Annie, is a go getter and will not a simple thing like money stand in their way. Nice interplay with ones at school. The boy's father was a little over the top but also understandable. The relationship that grows with the neighbor is so beautiful! The older neighbor is at first cranky but that's mainly because she's lonely. The kids end up befriending her and going on a treasure hunt together. It's a very solid book with good pacing. I was looking for, at first, a bit more depth. Then I remembered the target age range is 9-12 years old. It fits this audience very well.
