Watch the Special Features after you watch the movie.

It's OK I guess, however it's hard to take seriously a space alien named "Calvin"

I actually watched this with my 10 & 16yr old, it was interesting enough to keep them glued and they didn't get as annoyed and frustrated as what they normally do with sci-fi movies.
The ending was predictable for sure, we all got that one.
But we loved the fact that where people are included, who lives and dies is pretty much a chance of luck - that is "realistic" enough for us.
We don't watch a movie to be spot on realistic in every facet, that's why we watch docos. Movies are escapism for us.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa in 2017, this intense SF thriller depicts the struggle of a team of scientists aboard the International Space Station against a rapidly evolving life-form that caused extinction on Mars.
With nice visual effects and an edge-at-the-seat storyline, this movie turns out to be an amazing entertaining piece.
I enjoyed it to the hilt.

I have mixed feelings about this movie. It was good at first but then it felt like nothing good was going to happen with this thing loose on the International Space Station. At times it felt like things dragged. However, the ending felt rushed as if they ran out of time and had to come up with something quickly.

Despite the mixed reviews, I found this to be a tense and enjoyable sci-fi/horror film about a Mars life form that goes from dormant single-celled organism to hostile, quickly growing and adapting terror. Some think this is just an Alien and/or Lifeforce knock-off, but I wouldn't say that's fair. The alien is somewhat more realistic, and the suspense revolves just as much around the crew dealing with things going wrong on the Space Station as dealing with the alien threat. Nothing that original, but well-done for what it is.

A lot of money and talent wasted on another creature stalks humans story. Why? Did Jake Gyllenhaal lose a bet? If you have any information about scientific procedures, biology, physics, or what alien life forms might be like*, or your brain doesn't turn off when you enter a theatre, this movie will bug the hell out of you. If not, fine. Enjoy the murky lighting and predictable story. *ETA: I didn't watch the extras, so am surprised that the commenter below reports the film makers made things accurate "as much as possible". I guess not much was possible. The video I attached here outlines the many issues of this film. Warning: SPOILERS.

I was impressed with this film, as it is harder and harder to come up with anything new about human and alien contact. It is easy to assume that "mans" contact with LIFE of not our own, ends badly.
I found this to be original in the way that it took the audience along with the crew, each step along the way of discovery of LIFE, beyond our own, which came from ground samples from Mars.
The alien life form was different enough to make this original and not just a ripe off of so many alien creatures of before. The surprise ending was a surprise, if not somewhat confusing, but overall well worth the watch.
The special features describe in detail of the technical realism that the film took in trying to get things accurate, as much as possible. Whether of conditions in space or the creation of the alien life form. Good acting and story.

When the most interesting thing about a sci-fi film is the alien, you get a film like Life. No character development or surprises because you can see what's coming, and therefore you don't much care. In a word, disappointing.

Very intense. More than "Alien", but it's the same concept. I really hated it because no one gets out alive, just like "Alien Covenant." Not recommended. By the way, I did have an idea how it would end: you do see it coming.

Firewall One was the box. And Firewall Two was the lab. And Firewall Three is the station. But we have a new firewall.
- What are you saying?
They don't know that. And if Firewall One or Two fail, they have two choices. They can contain, or they expel.

Life's very existence requires destruction. Calvin doesn't hate us. But he has to kill us in order to survive.
