I was quite surprised by this book. It is quite good. You'd think it would be mainly sweet things. Well, not at all. The savoury pies are quite creatively different. For instance, try Curried Chicken Slab Pie, with a Carmelized Onion Crust, Beefy Empanada Slab Pie, Christine's Smoky Fish Slab Pie, Zucchini, Feta, and Kalamata Olive Slab Pie, Sumac-Scented Eggplant Slab Pie, or Southern-Style Tomato Slab Pie. There are also unusual sweet versions like Blackberry, Sweet Corn, and Basil Slab Pie, Raspberry Rugelach Slab Pie with a Cream Cheese Crust, Walnut "Baklava" Slab Pie, and Buttermilk Cardamom Slab Pie. The crust recipes are also surprisingly varied. Try Cream Cheese Crust, Cheddar Cheese Crust, Rye Crust, Chocolate Crust, Cookie Crumb Crust, Hash Brown Crust, and many more. I was quite inspired by this book.
