Featuring Mattie Cobb and her K-9 police dog partner Robo, Burning Ridge by critically acclaimed author Margaret Mizushima is just the treat for fans of Alex Kava.

On a rugged Colorado mountain ridge, Mattie Cobb and her police dog partner Robo make a grisly discovery--and become the targets of a ruthless killer.

Colorado's Redstone Ridge is a place of extraordinary beauty, but this rugged mountain wilderness harbors a horrifying secret. When a charred body is discovered in a shallow grave on the ridge, officer Mattie Cobb and her K-9 partner Robo are called in to spearhead the investigation. But this is no ordinary crime--and it soon becomes clear that Mattie has a close personal connection to the dead man.

Joined by local veterinarian Cole Walker, the pair scours the mountaintop for evidence and makes another gruesome discovery: the skeletonized remains of two adults and a child. And then, the unthinkable happens. Could Mattie become the next victim in the murderer's deadly game?

A deranged killer torments Mattie with a litany of dark secrets that call into question her very identity. As a towering blaze races across the ridge, Cole and Robo search desperately for her--but time is running out in Margaret Mizushima's fourth spine-tingling Timber Creek K-9 mystery, Burning Ridge .

It's rare when you think the fourth book in a series is the best. I understood so much more about Mattie Cobb and her past than I did before. Love her relationship with her K-9 partner, Robo. Particularly enjoyed the grown in her relationship with Cole Walker, the veterinarian. Admired Mattie's courage when facing danger. She's believably heroic and an admirable person. This is one of my favorite all-time mystery series.

I keep raving over Mizushima's series with Mattie and Robo, but if you love dogs and police investigations and female leads, this is a MUST READ series. Tracking lost children, discovering dead bodies, finding spent bullet casings, locating cigarette butts, pointing out drug cashes--Robo can do it all, and he sweetly allows Mattie to join him on his mission to sniff out the bad guys. The Mattie and Cole love story develops naturally--with no falling into bed ever other chapter--for a heartbroken man and a damaged/emotionally stunted woman. The books are full of "real" people from Mama T, the foster mother who raised Mattie to Sheriff McCoy who saved young Mattie and watched over her all her life, to Brody her nemesis. These books are firmly in the "Can't put it down" category. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED series--Read in order!

What can I say? I'm wildly in love with Robo!! I'm fascinated by his heroic searches. This is absolutely a five star read when it comes to anything and everything Robo. The human interactions? More like a three and a half star read. There were some things that didn't ring true for me. But then there's Robo. For as long as this series continues on, I will be reading it, and loving it, because of Robo! 💜

4th book in the series; hardcover; -- Truth be said, this is a page turner. The reason I do not assign 5 stars is because the structure of the writing is prosaic; more ordinary than exceptional, and it is exceptional writing which is required for me to give 5 stars as a rating. (i.e. like that of Pearl Buck, or Kent Krueger....)
