I tried to read the book but couldn't get into it, so when I came across this miniseries I thought I'd give a try and I am so happy I did. This is extremely interesting and very well acted by all involved.

Music is great; lighting, costuming, location are excellent. Direction is good.

I read the novel shortly before watching this and could not manage completing Episode Three. I understand it's a dramatization of a novel of written testimonies, diaries, accounts from several characters; some of those characters don't appear in the series and I understand the economy of characters to hurry the pace along for a story that is over 500 pages long, and I get also the reframing. My stomach turned at the 'added dialogue' and the liberties of action taken. If Wilkie Collins' characters are depicted with fine small strokes, the characterizations in this adaptation are that of thick black marker. No mention of Countess Fosco being Laura Fairlie's aunt, for example. No mention of Walter Hartright having a sister. Professor Pesca isn't the small man I envisioned, nor is Count Fosco the large bird-lover I got to know.

If you haven't read a Victorian novel, this BBC production you might like. _The Woman in White_ is an English literature classic still read widely today.

I LOVE the sets. But by the time I had watched three episodes and had not developed the slightest interest in any of the characters, I returned the set without finishing. Plaster mouldings are fabulous, but not so compelling as to make me watch another minute. Very "strident" feminism, very heavy handed villain, very sweet blonde, very macho brunette--notice everything was "very" and became tiresome.

Quite the drama. Ends perfectly.

Take it or leave it, but my advice is to watch the first episode, find a brief online synopsis for the second and third episodes (or you might just die of boredom watching them), then watch the final two episodes, when things finally pick up.

I like the young leads, including Jessie Buckley who was excellent in The Last Post, another recent British miniseries.

Well, this was a nail biter. I really like period films, and was surprised my husband got hooked during the first segment. He generally finds something --like a police action segment--to watch on his computer when I start a BBC production. So, that says something about the drawing in of the film. Very good, very good. Like a good read, you want to watch until the last segment ends.

I have seen other versions of "The Woman in White" and never thought I would be bored to tears by a BBC production. Unfortunately a film that can easily be, and has been, captured in 2 hours or less, has been made into 5 hours. This is a case where "more" is definitely not better. I guess I will stick it out for the 5th hour, but preferred most of the 7 other adaptations. Cannot recommend Kristi & Abby Tabby

Which production is this? The cover shows the 2018 mini series, but the description is describing the older 1997 version.
