The riveting story behind the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the decade leading to the historic Apollo 11 flight. A visceral and intimate account told from Armstrong's perspective, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the film explores the triumphs and the cost, on Armstrong, his family, his colleagues and the nation itself; of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

As a child I stayed up all hours of the night to watch these launches live on black and white TV. The DVD did a very good job of bringing all of those memories to life as if I was watching for the first time. Good Job, I hope the newer generations can understand the time and the joy.

Extraordinary POV experience enabled by employing a giant LED wall instead of green screen, with sight, sound and feel of our astronauts from Missions X-15, Gemini to Apollo 11 that we knew landed on the moon successfully when the space program was run by computers with less computing power than a washing machine! (Watch the extras on the explanation of those wrenching computer alerts.) Per wiki:

Biographical drama based on the 2005 book "First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong" by James R. Hansen, the film stars Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong (August 5, 1930 - August 25, 2012) and Claire Foy as his first wife Janet (March 23, 1934 - June 21, 2018).

It's inconceivable how one could take one of the greatest achievements in history and create a dull lethargic film. Claire Foy, who plays Janet Armstrong, is the only saving grace. Technically, the film is great - sound and visual effects are top notch. But the pace and lack of emotion in this should be charged emotional event is a downer from start to finish. I kept thinking of the far superior Apollo 13 (1995); different event but of the same genre...First Man (2018) is such a wasted opportunity.

.
Super lame with Ryan Gosling reprising his role of replicant, from Bladerunner 2059, this time as Neil Armstrong. The only good parts were the test flights. The rest was robotic and unemotional.

Wow! Both my wife and I were taken by surprise on this one. We got it out of curiosity...not expecting that we would actually be so drawn in. Was like watching it in real time unfolding.
This one was worthy of awards it may never see. Ryan Gosling at the best we've seen in films we watched of his. Everyone was outstanding---even the children!!!! WOW!! My wife was esp impressed with the children's performances. Who could get that out of them?

At this point we see over 500 want to see this by library request...It is one to have a movies night party.

Watching the character development and the differences between Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins it becomes clear why NASA focused on Neil to be their spokesman. Not that they all were not extremely smart and well spoken but Neil is portrayed to be the more charismatic one. The sub story of Neil's lost daughter is very sad and adds a very interesting human aspect to his accomplishments.

IMDb posted the best ones though there's more, many technical though. These ones are interesting as well:

I barely lasted two minutes in that ice bath. Of course, I suppose
NASA's more interested in the psychological reaction.
-Well, I think I made it pretty clear that I thought it was cold.
===
As you know, our decision to forego direct ascent in favor of a lunar orbit
rendezvous approach to the eventual Moon mission has had a major impact
on Gemini. Do you have any thoughts on that decision?
-Well, even considering von Braun's initial criticism, it seems that the payload saved by parking the primary vehicle in orbit and sending a smaller ship
down to the lunar surface is well worth the resulting challenges.
What do you see as the challenges?
-Cislunar navigation, for one. And rendezvous and docking.
===
Mrs. Armstrong! Have all your prayers been answered?
-Yes, yes, they have.
How would you describe the flight?
-Well, uh, I can only say it was outta this world.
