Not a bad sequel.

Better than the first one. But not as good as Election Year. Much more of an open environment. Sad that this stuff is happening for real. It's just not legal... I guess..... Don't give the government any ideas. Our country have had, and already have some sick twisted laws.

The idea of this movie was really cool. For a twelve hour period, citizens are able to do anything they want. Any crime. Murder, theft, whatever. Of course, things go a little too smoothly in the movie as in real life, the purge would probably leave everything destroyed. Anyways, for people who want to get revenge, this is the perfect night. I was pretty creeped out by the masks of some of the guys who participated in the purge. The movie is a great thriller and exciting as you watch a group of people trying to survive the night of the purge, while there is murder and theft going on around the city.

It seems that torture porn. now has three flavors. The Saw franchise brought us the first: It's a serial killer. The second version is Hostel: Rich people pay to abduct/torture whoever they can, it's like a game. Now we have the Purge films, which give it all political or social overtones...maybe the really scary thing here is that Purge kinda sorta makes you think a bit. Could anyone see this actually happening? The social commentary about the rich eliminating the American underclass?

Better than the first for me. A watchable slasher\action\horror movie. Too bad the writers couldn't make it a little more suspenseful. Also, the scenes with the sister killing the cheating sister and the whole up class purging thing at the end was just stupid. All in all a not bad movie for what it is and no fast forwarding required.

The original movie was good, though a bit outlandish to think in terms of the reality that the government (and society) would allow such annual event to take place. Nevertheless, this second movie was "ok" at best. In the first movie it followed the lives of just a single family...whereas this movie shows what went on in the rest of the city.

As with the first movie, it always made me cringe whenever you see the "purgers" holding hands, standing in a circle, and reciting their pledge to the new-founding fathers / nation. It seemed too "cult-like" and really didn't seem like a realistic thing that people would be doing. Whatevers... just a personal thoughts.

As for the movie itself... a lot of killings, a lot of violence, a lot of immoral acts.... but, the overall theme seemed to be about those rebelling against the annual purge, trying to bring a change into the views of "wrong doesn't make right", etc. In other words, showing that America didn't need this to be a nation of proud / civil people, and that all it does is expose the racism towards minorities, the divisions between the rich and poor, and of how the government itself took part in the annual purge to help "thin out" society of what they felt were part of the useless population.

Either way...entertaining movie to watch. Worth renting, but probably not worth actually purchasing.

This was quite vicious! I haven't witnessed such an unnerving film in awhile. "It can almost outdo what I experienced in physical reality, save it's fiction!"

Title Card: America. 2023. Unemployment is below 5%. Crime is virtually non-existent while every year fewer and fewer people live below the poverty line. All thanks to...

Title Card: The Purge: anarchy.

We found your car Sergeant. Your plates told us who you were. It was easy to see where you were headed tonight. Hell, I would've done the same thing. The unwritten Purge rule: don't save lives. Tonight we take lives. We make things manageable. Unfortunately the citizens aren't killing enough. So we supplement it all to keep things balanced. It's important work the NFFA does and we can't have any interference. We can't have heroes... oh no sir... no heroes. I hope you feel cleansed. Blessed be America, a nation reborn.
