Blatantly a down-under True Detective Season 1 wanna-be that falls short of its aspirations, with the stark beauty of the remote Australian landscape implying an epic grandeur to the story which it does not possess. There's quite a bit less there than many viewers imagine.

Creating a multiplicity of plot lines, dark small-town secrets, twists, and melodrama does not add up to more significance, just an atmospheric Australian soapy cop opera. Less would have been more believable, and speaking of believability: Judy Davis.

For some reason, while all actors are of course playing make-believe, the respected actress with significant large film roles in her earlier career looks absurd when first ambling into frame wearing a police uniform, gun on hip, cap on top. She is never out of costume, and despite finishing with a capable performance, Judy Davis in police garb continued to appear somewhere between ridiculous and preposterous during the course of the series.

Several notches below the high bar of True Detective 1, but a nice try worth a watch.

Haunting scenery of the Australian outback. Great cast of actors and good script. Aussie's drama production is fast catching up. Reminds me of the US series Longmire as both are
centered on indigenous people.

A terrific series! It reminded me a bit of Broadchurch (one of my favorites
shows) with the small town secrets, plot twists and strong characters. The Australian setting is a key character as well. The acting is wonderful with
Judy Davis leading the pack. A memorable series that will keep you guessing and binge watching!!
