I was very excited to read this book, as I loved her previous ones: One of us is Lying and Two can Keep a Secret. I enjoyed this book, but not as much as her other ones.

One of Us is Next by Karen McManus is the sequel to the murder-mystery One of Us is Lying that follows a new cast of characters and their conflict with a new copycat version of the old gossip app. Most of the characters in this new book played minor roles in the first story, allowing the reader to recognize and remember aspects of their character before the story even starts. On top of the new main characters playing roles in the first story, readers are given insight on what the Bayview Four is up to now and their relationships with each other as they’ve grown older. This is a nice way to create a new story with familiar characters while satisfying readers who wanted to see what the future for the original four was like after everything died down. With the bar set high from its predecessor, the new cast of characters is written and developed well, just as in the first book. However, as the first story had action right away, its sequel spends more time building up to the action, which can be disappointing to some readers who don’t like a slow start to a story. As a sequel, the story is very heavily intertwined with the plot of the original story making the task of reading One of Us is Lying necessary before picking this one up. Overall One of Us is Next is a very satisfying sequel worth reading if you enjoyed the first of the series, both for another well-written mystery and to see the future of the original cast.

I loved this book. Although I wasn’t able to figure out the mastermind in the first book before it was revealed, I was able to figure it out this time around. It did not make this book any less enjoyable. There were still plenty of plot twists that kept things thrilling and fresh. I think the author did a great job of keeping us updated on our four favorites from the previous book while introducing us to a new set of friends. I think Knox is my favorite with Maeve as a close second. Highly recommend!

The worst part of One of Us is Next is how quickly I finished the book. McManus truly built a captivating and amazing murder mystery that I wish went on just to satisfy my need for more. In this sequel to One of Us is Lying, high schoolers Maeve, Phoebe, and Knox deal with family issues, relationships, and problems with peers, which can be relatable to many teens out there. And on top of these conflicts, this group of friends takes on the task of finding who is responsible for the death of their classmate. I really enjoyed the very surprising plot twists that eventually led to an end that I was definitely not expecting. If the first book kept you on the edge of your seat, this book will blow you to the moon.

I couldn't manage this. Too much stupidity - hormone induced, no doubt - but no one was particularly interesting. It is easy to set a wolf among sheep and that's what these characters are - sheep. Except, I like sheep.

an okay sequel with an interesting denouement and irritating ending.

I felt that this book was the perfect sequel to one of us is lying. It had a great plot (a deadly truth or dare game) and definitely kept me guessing. The plot twist at the end was so unexpected that I never would have guessed it. Re-reading it, you can definitely see the truth. I also liked seeing where the bayview four ended up. It was nice seeing each of them follow their dreams. After reading this book from the library I immediately bought it and have read it around 5 times now. It has a great balance of romance and mystery, which makes a great book in my opinion. I will never get tired of reading this book and I absolutely cannot wait for Karen McManus to make another new book! I highly, highly reccomend it!

A really good sequel to One of Us is Lying. This time the game is truth or dare. Many twists and turns in this book. Liked the revisitation of characters. The ending was quite surprising as I would have never suspected that person causing hate and problems. What is next for Ms. McManus? Whatever it is, I will be reading it.

This story takes place in the Bayview community again. The original Bayview four were cleared of murder and have moved on with their lives. Someone has created a dangerous game that involves their younger siblings and friends. It’s a “Truth or Dare” game and the creator warns that you should always take the dare because if the truth about you is revealed it could ruin you! The dares become increasingly dangerous and eventually someone is killed. The game must be stopped before the next person on the list dies.
