In this clear-eyed look at the hitherto unnoticed ethical patterns of gay male lives, Nimmons looks at seven types of behaviour, including non-violent public culture, enormous rates of altruism, high levels of volunteerism, diffuse and communal intimacies, elaborate forms of erotic celebration, new forms of friendship with women, and the pursuit of diverse forms of sexual play. Arguing that these innovations bear striking similarities to the teachings of many traditional religions, Nimmons offers a profoundly optimistic vision of revolutionary change occurring within our midst.

The book is written using many big words to convey ideas which would be better explained with a few small words. The sentence structure reminded me of a nervous and awkward teenager trying to impress a date. Though it required great effort for me to forgive the author for torturing the English language and resist my impulse to shoot the editor, I think this book has many worthwhile observations about the novel and noteworthy contributions which the gay subculture may offer to reform personal interactions within the dominant social structure.
