An original story line with a sci-fi twist, but the experiences of the two characters are very familiar. This is a heartbreaking, 'timeless' tale that will resonate with anyone who has experienced loss, distance, and separation from the ones they love the most. However, in this story, Time itself... Yes, it was adapted into a movie that received tepid reviews, BUT, as with all screen adaptations, the novel is truly a gem that far supersedes the film. Henry DeTemble has a genetic disorder that causes him to time shift. He could be anywhere at any time and he doesn’t know for how long. Through... Read More »

Really great book! I enjoyed how the book jumps form scene to scene very quickly. I agree with people who felt the book seemed disjointed at times, but I found that to be the feeling of the story and i think it worked. I read this book when it first came out, around 2005. When I went and saw the movie, it all came back to me - how painfully long and boring the story was. The movie wasn't much better.
From the critics
Other: The book takes your heart, makes it all warm and fuzzy, and grinds it under it's heel.
Sexual Content: A bit of sexual content, but it's always pretty tame in that regard.

"I wish for a moment that time would lift me out of this day, and into some more benign one. But then I feel guilty for wanting to avoid the sadness; dead people need us to remember them, even if it eats us, even if all we can do is say "I'm sorry" until it is as meaningless air."

When Henry meets Clare, he is twenty-eight and she is twenty. Henry has never met Clare before; Clare has known Henry since she was six. Impossible but true, because Henry finds himself periodically displaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. Henry and Clare's attempts to live normal lives are threatened by a force that they can neither prevent nor control, making their passionate love story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable. The Time Traveler's Wife is a story of fate, hope and belief, and more than that, it's about the power of love to endure beyond the bounds of time.
