Couldn't get into it, therefore I didn't finish it. Some of this was due to the fact that it kept skipping 5-10 minute chunks at a time. May try in the future as there are 3 copies. Til then, its a waste of time in my book.

Laughably bad- I don't know what Spielberg was thinking. Talk about overrated- this is the MOST overrated movie out there.

This is a 1985 American period drama directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Alice Walker.
The film tells the story of a young African American girl named Celie Harris and shows the problems African American women faced during the early 1900s, including poverty, racism, and sexism.
Celie is transformed as she finds her self-worth through the help of two strong female companions.
Heart-wrenching at first, however, it ends up heart-warming.
It is an inspirational and thought-provoking drama.

You know, I'd easily bet anyone $100 that director Steven Spielberg figured that he was really-really doing Blacks a big-big favor by making this film._____ But, with the way I see it - If The Color Purple doesn't prove to the viewer, once and for all, how much Blacks truly hate one another, then nothing will. This film puts Blacks in such a bad light that I'm truly surprised that nobody boycotted it upon its initial release back in 1985._____ I'd certainly say that with a movie like The Color Purple and with the White-Supremacist mentality of Spielberg's, Blacks don't need the KKK anymore - 'Cause it isn't White prejudice that Blacks need to fear. No. It's the deep-rooted hatred that Blacks obviously have for each other (as is evident in this film) that's the real issue here._____ Personally, I thought that The Color Purple, as a film, has been far too over-rated for its own good. And I also thought it absolutely hilarious that this film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, but it didn't win a single one. You can certainly bet that the high'n'mighty Steven Spielberg was definitely banking, big-time, on snagging a few of those trophies to cram into his already over-crowded display cabinet.

I had a lot of mixed feelings whilst watching this film. Even though it had plenty of powerful, poignant scenes, music and characters, I still felt that it fell flat at times. I also suspected it to hold its own throughout like "Fried Green Tomatoes" did for me, but I was disappointed. Of course, that is not to say that I did not like this movie. I found it a brilliant piece! Another thing I want to bring to the surface was that this film was categorized as a "lesbian" film. The only girl-girl action that I saw here was Celie and Shug kissing. Other than that, I did not get a "lesbian" feel at all. It's a great movie nevertheless!

This is a very dark movie and difficult to watch, but it will make you feel.

This is one of my favourite movies! There were some parts where I was crying my eyes out and some really touching moments. This is a MUST- SEE movie.

WHERE WERE THE GODs when the young girl, Cecil in the land of LIBERTY is forced in to a life-time isolation, subjugation, deprivation & torment & keeps praying for mercy from the GODs she learned to worship?

The Novelist Writer Alice Walker stories & imaginations might NOT have been too far from the everyday reality of 1900 century America, but watching this painfully captivating film makes one see the wickedness of mankind & the prayers, dreams, ideals, determination & hopes of another.
