Just watched the John Hannah DVD set and all discs working well, so the VPL must have done their magic.
There are two Rebus DVD series and both are darkly entertaining and well done. Ken Stott portrays an older Rebus and John Hannah plays a younger version. Edinburgh is beautiful and a character in itself. Also highly recommend the Complete Rebus Short Stories by Ian Rankin called "The Beat Goes On".
If you love the Rebus DVD series, check out Mankel's Wallander. There are three Wallander DVD series, and each one is brilliant, especially the "Krister Henriksson" Wallander. (BBC's English-language Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh and Swedish versions with Krister Henriksson and Rolf Lassgärd.)
Enjoy the dark entertainment and brilliant acting of both Rebus DVD series and, if you have the time, reading the Rebus short stories is time well spent.

Dark, gritty take on Rebus but without his wit.
Just as an aside...if you borrow this, don't view disc #1. It's so badly damaged you end up missing half the dialogue & scenes & it will stick in your computer. Will pass it on to the librarians.
