What a delight to find Monsieur Pamplemousse in action again! The restaurant reviewer for a Guide-Michelin style guidebook is forever falling into the soup, but he can rely on his trusty bloodhound Pommes Frites to pull him out of both criminal plots and romantic entanglements. The humour is gentle and permeates the whole book like an expertly judged bay leaf in a stew. This book and others in the series are like a perfect jam tart for francophile readers, not meaty perhaps, but bitten into with delight and quickly devoured.
