Contains an interesting and varied collection of recipes. Some of them could be done without cast iron.

I believe the instuction for using stove cleaner is for old, cruddy or rusted pans. The stove cleaner is then thoroughly cleaned off before seasoning. After seasoning, the suggested cast iron cleaning method is only to use boiling water, then dry with paper towels, no detergent or scrubbers.

Someone admits that cast iron cookware can be used for more than steaks and chops. "Sloppy" foods like baked beans and stews are included. However, I disagree with using oven cleaner or lye to clean the pan before the first use. I mean, we are planning to eat the foods prepared in it! Then, after that abuse, we are instructed to clean them tenderly, and never use detergent. Written by someone who has not had much experience in using such cookware. I will admit, though, that I never thought of preparing a fruit crisp in one of my pans. That is on the menu for this evening.
