You are in the hands of a MASTER. The director captures some great performances and the story does not suffer from its telling. I recommend this movie.

This is a Turkish movie. According to the country's "ancient moral code", a raped young girl had to be condemned to death in order to uphold the family honor. Fortunately the killer-her cousin escaped with her and the story had an unexpected ending.
This is a superb film with outstanding performance and magnificent scenery.

Turkish father must kill his raped daughter to uphold the family honor, but delegates the duty to another. Will the family honor be vindicated? or will the girl, clearly guilty of being raped, escape justice? (A 2007 Turkish production.)

It's a good movie, and well worth watching, even though the plot, the ending, and the behavior of the men are mostly predictable. However, Merriem's character is complex and multilayered as she struggles with the burdens, defeats, and successes of women in an Islamic society.
The movie shows the vast divide between educated and non-educated Turks, as is true in many cultures. You realize all over again that the only hope for women and girls the world over is education, both for themselves and for the men in their lives.
P.S. This movie is especially relevant right now, given the vicious fighting right next to the Turkish border with Syria, and the despicable treatment of girls and women by fundamentalist Muslims.

I liked using Hoopla to view this movie. I found the landscape of this film intriguing. I do question the ending, but overall it was well acted.

Really enjoyed this movie. Compelling storyline and impressive acting. When the story and acting is this well done, I don't mind having to read the English sub-titles.

I was not sure at first if I wanted to watch this but I did and am very glad I did. The story unfolded very well, the scenery was magnificent and the acting superb. Well worth watching.

Just because this is a 'non-western culture' film, as another reader pointed out - it doesn't mean that we shouldn't apply the same criteria to it - that we'd critique other North American films by... And by those standards - this film is at best, average, and at worst sophomoric in its style, pace, and editing... and that includes its mediocre script. There's some nice cinematography - but that has to do more with the actual scenic topography being shown, than any nuanced camera effect. I did, however, like the deliberate moral dilemma served by the story-line, in stripping bare the cruel hypocrisy found in this country's "ancient moral code". It made the 'eye-for-an-eye justice' meted out in the end, all the more satisfying.

The story is quite gripping and takes several unexpected twists and turns. More than once, I was kept at the edge of my seat. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I would not describe the ending as grim at all - the oppressed do find justice (though not in the Hollywoodian sense). Anybody with even a slight interest in non-western cultures should absolutely watch this movie.
