I recommend reading this book who wants to set up her/himself and her/his children to new rules of game in the new century. Sticking to old rules is what we are facing now, unemployment, low economics...
This book shows winning guidelines for now and near future.

Pink takes some of the same big trends that have been covered pretty thoroughly by other works (Naisbitt's "Mind Set," Friedman's "The World Is Flat," etc.), but brings the response down to the personal level. While the average Joe Sixpack (couldn't resist) is pretty powerless to impact the changes wrought by automation and globalization, Pink provides great insight into the types of skills and talents individuals should focus on developing. As a fairly balanced but right-brain leaning person myself, the book of course made me feel good because it reinforced how valuable my skills are! But the exercises Pink recommends for enhancing your own abilities in his "Six Senses" (Design, Story, Symphony, Empathy, Play, Meaning) are useful, simple, and fun. Some of the focal points seem a bit random (six full pages on labyrinths? srsly?), but the book is well-written, easy to read, filled with interesting examples and photos, and it does a great job of capturing the current moment in the changing culture of work in America.
