Add a SummaryJust like Dead Tossed Waves, I felt that this was not as good as Forest of Hands and Teeth. Can't all be winners! Annah (Gabry-from-DTW's twin) is a tough girl, used to taking care of herself, but when her sister and her friend Elias return unexpectedly...with hot-but-broken Catcher in tow, things get complicated. Will she be able to keep it together and survive the Hoard's arrival, murderous recruiters and her own tumultuous emotions?
Third book of 'The Forest of Hands and Teeth' trilogy by Carrie Ryan. All characters were rather "flawed" in the same way, they were emo and always beat themselves up thinking everything was their fault, yet the characters consistently fell in love with each other despite the fact they were determined to push other people away because of the faults they perceived in themselves AND they were of course, always the hero and survivor. Yet they had

Add a CommentOf all three books in the series, this one was the first one I read. That wasn't a particularly smart move on my part, but it didn't affect how much I enjoyed it over the other two. Annah's story feels much more genuine on her part, and the way she held herself at a distance did pull at several heartstrings, due to her scars. Her and Catcher are definitely a ship together. Living in the Dark City alone, waiting for her "brother figure" to return, and haunted with the guilt that she had left her sister alone to die when she was younger, the protagonist is quite her own. The ending was truly beautiful. I honestly cannot think of another word to describe it. 5/5 stars

The Forest of Hands and Teeth was an ideal balance of romance and horror. The Dead Tossed Waves was adequate, but The Dark and Hollow Places was... dull and cliche. Did she have to have a twin sister as to equally distribute the romance of the male characters? Overall, the end of the trilogy did not meet my expectations.
Amazing read - I think it was my favourite for the whole series. Definately the most scary and the ending makes you speed through just to find out what happens!
A philosophical and bleak zombie novel, DaHP reflects on the nature of violence and the determination to survive in the face of impossible odds. While not as potent as Forest of Hands and Teeth, this book still packs a compelling combo of romance, horror and introspection. For those who like their zombie novels to have brains, this is a good choice.
Loved this book. They really put the feeling of the pain going on into this
i like this book its petty good
and it just like something you wouldnt expect because of the title and the picture but the book it good.
I hated Annah. She was annoying and had whiny. I felt she had no connection to Catcher, and I wish it had just been the first two novels. This was a poor way to end the series.
Lots of needless repetition in this book (seems to be a theme for Carrie Ryan), but still a great read. I was glad characters from the second book were prominent, and I was very satisfied by the ending. Definitely one of my favorite series, and very different from anything I've read before.
Well, that's done. Short review: If you've read the first two books, you already know what happens. Dumb, ill-conceived choice to set the story in motion, lots of narcisstic teenage angst, a (mostly internal) love triangle, Unconsecrated/Mudo/plague rats, and running from the evil Recruiters.
This was by the far the best in this series, I found that it was quite an amazing story. The characters were a lot more unique and their circumstances were just a little more intriguing and easier to follow. The story was depicted so effectively that it was provoking at times to read. I think the fact that it centered more around hope, loss and survival made it the best of the series. Beautiful book, wish there would be more.
