Thornford Regis has never been lovelier. But inside the empty village hall, the huge Japanese drum that's featured in the festivities has been viciously sliced open--and curled up inside is the bludgeoned body of Sybella Parry, the beautiful 19-year-old daughter of the choir director.

Well written mystery set in rural England. The main character is a church of England priest who is quite a lovable fellow. He eventually solves two murders that took place in their small village. I really liked the writing, the story, and the characters. I will definitely read more of his work

This mystery seemed to lack genuine British flavor.

This story introduces vicar Tom Christmas and his daughter Miranda who have moved to the apparently idyllic village of Thornford Regis after the still unsolved murder of his wife. Appearances are deceiving as a young woman's body is found during the May Fayre and other minor mysteries start to take on more significant meaning. Tom is drawn into the investigation as part of his ministry to his parishioners and villagers. An unconventional reluctant sleuth and a cast of characters form the basis of this series; I am looking forward to reading more stories.
