Phillip F. Nelson's new book begins where LBJ: The Mastermind of the JFK Assassination left off. Now president, Johnson begins to push Congress to enact long-dormant legislation that he had previously impeded, always insisting that the timing wasn't right. Nelson argues that the passage of Johnson's "Great Society" legislation was designed to take the focus of the nation off the assassination as well as lay the groundwork for building his own legacy.

Nelson also examines Johnson's plan to redirect US foreign policy within days of becoming president, as he maneuvered to insert the US military into the civil war being fought in Vietnam. This, he thought, would provide another means to achieve his goal of becoming a great wartime president. In addition, Nelson presents evidence to show that the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty in 1967 was arguably directed by Johnson against his own ship and the 294 sailors on board as a way to insert the US military into the Six-Day War. It only failed because the Liberty refused to sink.

Finally, Nelson presents newly discovered documents from the files of Texas Ranger Clint Peoples that prove Johnson was closely involved with Billie Sol Estes and had made millions from Estes's frauds against taxpayers. These papers show linkages to Johnson's criminal behavior, the very point that his other biographers ignore.

what was the motive behind this TRAGEDY? Ambition, and Revenge, sez mr. nelson. during this, he pretty much gives a clinic on how to understand the sociopathic personality. it seems that Johnson was a classic example. jfk was the 11th person he had killed. included in that list were his own brother-in-law, and his own sister. nobody was able to stand in Lyndon's way, and he made many powerful, evil friends. engrossing reading, if you can get over your delusions of fair play as the American way.

I read "Reclaiming History"... more of a crock than anything else.

I believe LBJ was involved at junior level and that he knew, but no way was a mastermind.

Yes, definitely a crock, just like the Bible of Crock, Reclaiming History by Bugsy Bugliosi - - wonder how much they paid him to spew all those lies, endless dishonest assertions - - it would take another bible-sized book to counter - - but nobody has ever read the Warren Commission Report, as Mort Sahl and David Lifton both said, and could be anything but a conspiracy believer - - Bugliosi is such a farce and sham!
[Yes, LBJ had some inkling as to what was going on, but he was the order-follower dude - - the shooters of JFK were Jean Souetre, French Army officer and deserter and OAS, Lucien Conein of the CIA, another Belgian criminal and CIA contract killer, Mozes Maschkivitzan, the taller blond fellow was a Hungarian in the OAS, formerly with the French Foreign Legion, the weapons specialist, while the older and fat hobo was an actual hobo], contracted by William Harvey of the CIA station in Italy, following the orders of Allen Dulles, on the orders of the Rockefeller brothers.]
Lucien Conein would go into the Dal-Tex Building - - a perfect line-of-sight to the presidential motorcade - - as shooter number 3; Jean Souetre would be on the overpass, as shooter number 1; Lazlo the Hungarian, and Maschkivitzan , the short, Gallic- or Semitic-appearing fellow with the turned up collar, would be shooter number 2 at the grassy knoll. The rifle used on the grassy knoll would be removed from the area by Jack Ruby, while someone with a similar physical description to the young George H.W. Bush would relieve Souetre of his rifle afterwards on the overpass. The classic kill box, no doubt planned by Conein [so two French ultra-rightwingers and pro-imperialist fascists from OAS, contract killer and Lucien Conein, French immigrant and CIA member would be be shooters of the president].
The top-level planners: Allen Dulles, his cousin Tracy Barnes, William Harvey and McGeorge Bundy [and possibly Richard Helms, who definitely had knowledge of it] most likely at the behest of the Rockefeller brothers, David and Nelson.
