I thought it was better than the last 3 or 4 books Cornwell put out before this one. Most of the characters managed to be more human and didn't wallow in their one-dimensional flaws with the exception of Dr. Scarpetta, who manages to solve a mystery with 3 clues, the wind speed, and the taste of tomatoes in summer
