A thrilling account of an orphaned Saxon girl and a Norse boy whose lives are caught up in the battle with the invading Norman rulers from southern England into the rugged mountains of northwestern England in the early 11th century. The author's vivid descriptions and use of arcane nouns almost makes the scent of peat-fire smoke waft from the pages of this book.
