Every parent should read this (dads as well as mums). So many great ideas for helping kids be their best selves while carving out space to be your own best self too. Down with childish entitlement and up with raising kids to be kind, considerate, compassionate and aware adults (eventually, of course)! This belongs with Bringing Up Bébé and Backtalk as being one of the best parenting books ever. Those three are all you need. Trust me on this. I've read so many parenting books, my husband threatened to check them all out of the library and have a bonfire with them to save future parents from all the pain and confusion they put him and me through. :)

The writing style is clear, concise and she supports her views with good examples. Not a surprise that she was a magazine editor. I agree with her child rearing views and she has some very good advice to offer new moms to think about. She speaks about the end-game and outcomes, sleep problems, following your own beliefs and not compromising yourself, understanding that you are not just a mom but still the same person with needs and wants as does the child. It's not so much about being mean, but rather disciplined in your goals to obtain the desired outcome for your child as he grows up to be a mature independent well-rounded person.
