"There are no good men among the living, and no bad ones among the dead."-Afghan proverb It's hard to believe, but we've been in Afghanistan for 15 years now. Whether or not your want to call it a war is beside the point. "No Good Men Among the Living" joins the sadly overflowing shelf of post-9/11/war on terror literature. Journalist Anand Gopal has a somewhat different take as this book looks at the Afghani experience, which has been horrific. They have spent the past 4 decades in some state of unrest: the Russian invasion, the rise of the Taliban, Osama and Al-Queda, warlords and militias, and the U.S. occupation. We all should read this book to put a human face to the conflict. Supplementary books: "Ghost Wars," "Little America," "Taliban," "Where Men Win Glory."
