It is not possible to get enough of Nelson deMille. Want summer beach reading? Here it is. Want 2:00 am I can't get to sleep reading --- then don't read this: it'll keep you awake in further. For my money, deMille is at his writingest best when he's writing his John Corey novels. By turns cynical, sarcastic, self-deprecating and just plain amusing lead character Corey, out-mustered NYPD cop and part time FBI operative is tenacious like a terrier: he can't. won't let go of a case even when threatened by his bosses with a sojourn in Yemen (obviously not a nice place). Night Fall's ending is a deus ex machina kind of thing: a bit of a cheat. But 'nuff said 'cause the rest of the book is deMille superb. Take it to the beach but don't get it all suntan lotion sandy. OK?
