Sea of Thieves is an open-world, pirate game, where you explore the treacherous seas with your swashbuckling crew, all the while unearth treasure chest plentiful with booty. However, with a concept and theme as enticing as this, the game had a lot of hype and build-up to live up-to, which it unfortunately doesn't. The visuals of the game are absolutely stunning, with how the different weather effects appear really captivate the player, unfortunately visuals aren't everything for a game to be fun. The gameplay starts off fun when playing with friends and fits the pirate theme for a few hours, but this excitement quickly fades, revealing the flaws of the game. The gameplay is mind-numbingly repetitive. The game revolves quests from the various pirate coves. However, the quest all feel the same. Combined with, no character progression or end goal, makes the whole game feel pointless. Sea of Thieves is a gorgeous looking game, one the best I've seen in year which is why it hurts so much that its core gameplay is so drab and uninspiring. This game had tons of potential to be one of the biggest hits in 2018, but instead, it has just drifted into obscurity. Rating: 2 out of 5

Sea of Thieves is the latest highly anticipated game by Rare Studios. The hype for this game has been building up for a long time now, and unfortunately to say, it does not live up to the hype. Sea of thieves starts off well enough with a beautiful and unique artstyle, fully equipped with amazing presentation, animations, and sound design. But that’s it. Beyond the looks the game offers a very few amount of quest formats that are repeated constantly across its large map which seemingly don't give the player anything. There’s no progression in the game whatsoever. The only unlockables are cosmetic, which the player can not even see too appreciate. The “story” is just a sequence of repetitive missions which don’t give the player anything but money to buy the unseeable cosmetics. The game is a sandbox with nothing in it. Hopefully future developer updates will satisfy those who have purchased the game in the future.
