The problem with Superman is that he's just not very interesting. Even when your try to make him darker or more ambiguous, he's still just kinda dull. This 2006 film is a decent effort, but ultimately disappointing. Bryan Singer, who ushered in the comic book movie age with the first two "X-Men" films, pays homage to the Christopher Reeve films, especially "Superman" and "Superman II," but can't really bring the character into the 21st century. The acting and FX are good, but it's just kinda boring. Brandon Routh (who?) plays Superman/Clark Kent, Kate Bosworth is Lois Lane, Kevin Spacey (overplaying it) is Lex Luther, and Parker Posey and Frank Langella are underused in supporting parts. Clearly they were setting this up as a franchise, but it wouldn't be until "Man of Steel" (2013) that they'd try again and, again, it was a bit disappointing.
