This really is young adult fiction, nevertheless an interesting review of life in Egypt, dysfunctional families in dysfunctional monarchies making self interested decisions leading to murder of siblings and spouses. Cleopatra is well portrayed as a bright girl with limited worldly experience having to learn quickly how to save herself [who is the embodiment of the kingdom]. We are not clear how much good she did for her citizens, the focus of the book is on her relationships. An who knew the court dancers went naked except for their long braids when they danced.
