cover story on this is that the inspiration was the death of Roger's father, in WW2. then why the knife in the back of the soldier, on the back cover? for a band which started doing acid drenched instrumentals on top of volcanoes, the lyrics of this album/cd are extremely important to listen to. NOT NOW JOHN, as well as YOUR POSSIBLE PASTS are personal favorites. it's not relevant to pick out individual tracks, as this is the most thematic cd of theirs, since DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. if you can, withhold your judgments and conclusions until you are able to hear the entire album, as one. Roger is telling us something, here, he is dealing with very big issues. I don't think Gilmour and the rest appreciated making this so much, because it was Waters, giving the orders, similar to how the Beatles degenerated under the 'leadership' of McCartney. But this CD is awesome, and the other lads' musicianship doesn't suffer from their resentment (apparently simmering below the surface). There's no degeneration here, though this one may have been the beginning of the end for Pink Floyd (as Sgt. Pepper's was for the Fab Four).
