Nobel Laureates from Africa

Capital City Press Featured Writer Peter Midgley says of this list: For four dreadful years, I have felt an overwhelming need to rediscover humanity and compassion. In my search, I returned to a lifetime of individuals who have inspired me. As I worked through my list, I realised how many of them were, or are, Nobel laureates: Africa has produced 28 Nobel laureates in field as diverse as Physics (2), Chemistry (3), Medicine or Physiology (3), Peace (14), and Literature (6). And thus the idea for this list was born: inspiring books by African Nobel laureates. A few names that do appear on this list may come as a surprise, mostly because their names are generally associated with other parts of the world. They are included here because they were born in Africa and spent at least part of their formative years on the continent.
