For nearly 50 years, American photographer W. A. Bentley photographed thousands of snowflakes in his Vermont workshop. His painstakingly mounted images were remarkable revelations of nature's diversity, with no two snowflakes exactly alike, but all based on a common hexagon. In 1931, the American Meteorological Society gathered the best of these photos and had them published; that work has long been available as a Dover reprint edition. The present volume is an inexpensive selection of 72 of the best plates (containing over 850 copyright-free, black-and-white photographs) carefully selected from the larger Dover volume. An endless source of inspiration for artists, illustrators, designers, and craftspeople, these extraordinary images will be ideal for use in textile and wallpaper design, as well as a host of other creative projects.
