A great manga based in a sharp female point of view. In a society where women are expected to get married and have children, the three main characters struggle with the pressure of getting older and being single. It's witty and far more mature than the author's other work Princess Jellyfish. If you're a woman over 25, it rings heart breathtakingly true.A great manga based in a sharp female point of view. Jace's life is terribly tragic and hopeless romantic. Jay writes incredible real romances filled with real feelings and real life. They're poignant and emotional. I couldn't actual get past the preface. Erin Falconer starts her book off by narrating her background, which originates in Winnipeg Manitoba. As another woman from Manitoba, the opportunities afforded to Erin is just insane and I found her completely unrelatable and unlikable. This is such a refreshing YA novel. I loved every moment of it. Not only is it fast paced but that characters are super compelling and feel genuine. It shares similarities to Red Rising by Pierce Brown but that's a great thing. Just can't wait for the second book. This is such a refreshing YA novel. I loved every moment of it. I lost interest in this book in the first a hundred pages. Like other users I thought it could have benefited a great deal if it was slower paced and did a better job establishing characters. I just didn't feel like the conflict was compelling enough neither was the world building. It just felt...shallow.I lost interest in this book in the first a hundred pages. This is a very fast read. That said I can't help but feel it really lacked heart. Neither of the two characters were very compelling. Both of them are fairly successful but they complain a lot about it. I didn't really feel like they had any chemistry. This is a very fast read. That said I can't help but feel it really lacked heart. There is two problems with this book:
1. There is no climax what so ever. This entire book does not have a three act structure at all. It is completely one act. All set up no pay off.
2. There is a physical romantic relationship between two main characters that occurs in the middle of the book with no build up at all. It's just BAM. The author uses it as justification to nail the main characters to a conflict neither of them are invested in. It's shoddy and just...disappointing.
On a high note, the world building is great, I did enjoy the two male characters. I thought they were interesting. The female characters weren't bad...they were just boring and rather passive heroes.
Over all it was disappointing. Leave it be and find something else to read. There is two problems with this book:

When I picked this book I felt much the same as the commenters. It sounded like a typical YA with well used tropes but within the first chapter I realized that I really liked Emika. I really liked all the characters. I'm looking forward to the next book. If you are a gamer girl you will like it. It's a fun short read, and a nice break between heavier books. When I picked this book I felt much the same as the commenters. I found this comic to be more than a little confusing. It's not really science fiction and I'm not sure what the theme is supposed to be. The main character is perfect...like literally perfect...which is boring. The conflict gets resolved in book one in a very deus ex machina sort of way. The characters don't really struggle and if they do it's superficial.

I'm not a fan of Karen Chance's other series led by Cassie Palmer but Dorina is magnetic in this series. She's a strong, vulnerable heroine that has lived most of life terrified of herself and the chaos that seems to follow her. Her romance with Louis Cesare is surprisingly is tender and is not problematic in the way some of the other relationships in other series are.I'm not a fan of Karen Chance's other series led by Cassie Palmer but Dorina is magnetic in this series.
